How do I get to conference? Where do I park? Where is registration?
Visit our Getting There section for information on traveling to conference and parking at or near the Hilton Austin. There will be a UT Football game in Austin on Saturday, August 31, so please plan ample time for travel and to find parking. Parking is not guaranteed at the Hiton, even for registred guests.
Registration will be on the 6th floor of the Hilton in the foyer of the Austin Grand Ballroom.
What should I wear to conference?
The suggested dress for the entire conference is business casual (comfortable clothes and shoes are fine as a bit of walking is usually involved). We strongly recommend you bring a sweater. It is extremely difficult to regulate the temperature to please everyone. If you are chilly, you can put the sweater on or take it off if you are too warm.
How can I access sessions handouts?
In an effort to be green, most speakers will project low numbers when printing their handouts. Many will pass around a sign-up sheet so they can email attendees handouts at a later date. Many presenters also provide NASW/Texas with electronic versions of their handouts, which we will be posted online starting August 5.
How many CE hours are available? Who can get CE?
Up to 19 hours of continuing education will be available at this year's conference for social workers in Texas and many other states. All hours are also approved for LPCs and LMFTs in Texas. Specific sessions are approved for LCDCs and Certified Guardians. There is no additional charge for CE.
How do I get my continuing education certificate?
Before you leave the conference for good, turn in your Attendance Verification Form and Conference Evaluation Form at the registration booth. Both of these forms are located in the site program. We will have volunteers ready to give you your certificate right away or, if you prefer, you can drop off your forms and we can e-mail your certificate to you. (If you choose to have your certificate emailed to you, if will be sent within six weeks of the conference. Please check your spam folder as sometimes these messages get caught.)
Why do you schedule sessions on the same or similar topic at the same time?
Although our Conference Planning Committee tries very hard not to schedule like sessions at the same time, speakers sometimes ask to be re-scheduled due to conflicts and we have to schedule them when they are available. As there are more than 80 sessions, it is impossible to rearrange the entire schedule each time a speaker requires a change.
What can my spouse/family/friends do in Austin while I'm attending conference? What can we do together in the evenings?
Check out our "Things to Do in Austin" page for great activites for you and your guests! You can also check with the Hilton Concierge for additional options.
Are there any restaurants nearby?
Yes! This Hilton is home to Finn & Porter, Liberty Tavern, and Java Jive on Fifth. It is also located in the heart of Downtown Austin with countless options within walking distance. (Or take a pedicab for a true Austin experience!) Click here for a map of restaruants nearby or here for a listing with reviews on Yelp. On Yelp, you can filter based on your price range and what kind of food you would like.
Why aren’t complimentary coffee and snacks provided throughout the conference?
Our Conference Planning Committee strives to keep your registration fees reasonable by managing our expenses. As we pay $89.00 per gallon for coffee and tea and $49.00 per dozen cookies, we have decided over the years to serve coffee and snacks during designated breaks. We work to find sponsors and underwriters for these events. Between these designated breaks, you can also find coffee availalbe on the lobby level of the Hilton at Java Jive on Fifth.
Why don’t we hold the conference in less expensive hotels?
Few hotels can hold our conference. The combination of up to 15 breakout sessions at a time, a standing exhibit hall, general sessions of 700+ and peak night sleeping rooms of over 300 all lead us to very large hotels.
