Learn What Ethical Social Workers Need to Know!

Presented by NASW/Texas Executive Director, Miriam Nisenbaum, LMSW, ACSW, Texas Law for the Social Worker: What Ethical Social Workers Need to Know, will bring you up to speed on the rules and laws that impact social work practice in Texas. This six hour workshop includes two informative sessions:


Session I: Keeping Up with the TSBSWE Rules 


TSBSWE implemented new rules in 2013 following a required review. These changes to the rules as well as other intersecting laws, attorney general opinions, and case law will be discussed. All licensed social workers, students, and social work educators will benefit from this up-to-date information. Hard copies of TSBSWE Law and Rules will be provided.

  • Changes to record-keeping requirements
  • Changes to licensure requirements for military social workers
  • Changes to what kind of guidance TSBSWE board or staff can provide to licensees
  • Changes to Temporary, Inactive, and Emeritus license status
  • Changes to abuse reporting requirements
  • Access to Consultation Regarding TSBSWE Rules and Complaints

Session II: NASW/Texas Legislative Update


Do you know what legislation is currently being considered and how it may affect our profession and our client populations? Join us to find out what’s going on at the Texas Capitol this session that impacts our work. Updates on the Social Work Reinvestment Initiative and tools for educating policy makers will be provided. A review of current federal activity will also be presented.

Cancellations will be refunded less a $35 processing fee if made by April 22, 2016. Registrations are nonrefundable after that date.

Registration fees must be paid or postmarked by May 1, 2016. Registrations unpaid at this time will be considered onsite registrations, meaning the seat will not be held.
