Get Your Compliance Ducks in a Row!

Session I.  Ducks in a Row: HIPAA & TMPA for Therapists (8:00 am - 11:00 am)

This 3 hour workshop covers what a solo private practice therapist needs to do, know, and have to comply with the Federal and Texas state medical privacy regulations.

We will discuss:

  • What HIPAA requires of the solo private practice therapist
  • The ethics of privacy and security
  • TMPA/Texas HB 300 (the Texas Medical Privacy Act)
  • HIPAA versus your professional Code of Ethics
  • Typical problems the private practice therapist might encounter (like: email, texting, and compliance documentation)
  • Ethical solutions: products, practices, forms! checklists! and more resources that can help.
  • This course provides 3 hours CEU, including 3 hours ethics, via the TX Social Work board and the TX Professional Counselors Board.
  • This course meets the Federal and Texas state standards for HIPAA training.
  • This course is taught by an LCSW and is not legal advice.

3 hrs CE, including 3 hrs ethics.

Session II. The Thriving Private Practice: Ethical Practice Building for Therapists  (12:30 pm - 3:30 pm)

Building a sustainable private practice takes more than great clinical skills—private practice success requires therapists to embrace a bit of the business world. Marketing, advertising, PR… business knowledge and skills can sometimes feel foreign and potentially inappropriate when applied in therapeutic settings.  So join us for this workshop, which offers some of the most helpful guidance a therapist can get to build a thriving private practice… ethically.

We will explore:

  • Finding yourself in the “business of private practice”
  • Finding your “ideal clients”
  • Top advertising practices for therapists (with and without a budget, for extroverts and introverts!)
  • Standing out online (websites, graphic design, copy, photography/image)
  • Ethical considerations

3 hrs CE, including 1 hr ethics.
