ACA Repeal Update & Action Steps You Can Take from Community Catalyst

  • Senate leadership released the latest bill text early this afternoon, and an outline of the new bill was leaked this morning. From this outline, it is clear that the latest version includes only cosmetic changes to BCRA that does not alter its fundamental problems. For this reason, we must keep our focus on the fundamental problems of the bill and its devastating impacts on people's lives, rather than on the small tweaks that the Senate makes.

  • Later this afternoon, Community Catalyst will be sending out an alert with our statement, key takeaways and talking points. We will be sending out a policy summary of the latest bill in tomorrow's Daily Briefing.

  • We're continuing to hear that we will see a CBO score on Monday, and a vote will likely take place as early as next week.

  • Sen. Graham (R- SC) and Sen. Cassidy (R- LA) released an alternative proposal to the Senate health care bill today.

  • Every phone line needs to be lighting up today! We need to continue to emphasize that tweaks or minor revisions to the health care bill are not sufficient. Activate your networks and coalition partners to keep calling their senators toll-free at 866-426-2631 and tell them not to cut any deals on a bill that will finance massive tax cuts for corporations by:
    • Ending Medicaid expansion at any point in time
    • Destroying the Medicaid program by changing the structure through per capita caps or block grants
    • Increasing  the number of people without health insurance
    • Undermining the consumer protections put in place by the Affordable Care Act
  • In-person events: Don't forget to check out the updated event calendars here, here, and here. Upcoming: Plug into The Drive for Our Lives nationwide bus tour. Check out the bus tour's launch toolkit and draft bus route. If you would like to plug into this, please email Rachelle Brill at
  • Social media: Please make sure to use social media to highlight stories, content, events and news coverage that puts pressure on senators, using the hashtags #KillTheBill and #ProtectOurCare. Community Catalyst and our friends at the Center for American Progress developed a #ProtectOurCare Facebook Filter to compliment the POC Twibbon currently circulating Twitter. We are encouraging everyone to push this out through their Facebooks, we will report back with how many uses we are able to get! You can use and View the Facebook Filter here:
  • Please check out our vault of graphics from us and our partners.
  • Show your support for Medicaid using one of our social media filters and continue to promote the #IAmMedicaid campaign.
