Social Worker Job Profile: Lynn Panepinto

Lynn Panepinto dislikes the idea of “helping” people, especially as a foreigner. Right after college, Lynn joined a Canadian NGO in Peru, but “I became pretty disillusioned with the idea of doing volunteer work as a foreigner from the US, in a community that wasn’t mine. I felt distance from the community.” Despite her reservations, Lynn did not return to the US. Instead she moved jobs, working to support community development projects that originated from, and were created by people in the area. Read more about Lynn here.

Updates for Therapists

Beware of communications from the traveling Canadian couple who want to pay in advance for 10 therapy sessions. Don’t fall for it! 1. Only accept payment for a session at the time of service and have clear office policies about accepting and refunding fees. 2. Don't accept cashier’s checks for any amount of money you cannot afford to lose. Cashier’s checks can be forged and it can take weeks to identify a fraudulent cashier’s check. Get more tips and updates here.
