Learn What Ethical Social Workers Need to Know!

Presented by Will Francis, LMSW, Ethics & the Texas Social Worker, will bring you up to speed on the rules and laws that impact social work practice in Texas.


TSBSWE ethical situations will be highlighted, as well as how to practice within the NASW and TSBSWE Codes of Conduct. Recent changes to the TSBSWE rules will be discussed, as well as a thorough update on the Sunset Commission’s review of the Licensing Board. All licensed social workers, students, and social work educators will benefit from this updated information. 


Topics covered include:

  • Developing a framework for ethical decision making
  • History of the Code of Ethics
  • Differentiating between TSBSWE Code of Conduct and the NASW Code of Ethics
  • Reviewing the 2018 changes to the NASW Code of Ethics
  • Development of the Behavioral Health Executive Council
  • Working with the board to ensure supervision and other paperwork is processed timely
  • Client records in complaints
  • Process for investigating and hearing of an ethical complaint
  • Preparing for an ethical complaint

Meet the presenter: WILL FRANCIS, LMSW



Will Francis, LMSW is excited to serve as the new Executive Director for the National Association of Social Workers, Texas Chapter.

He previously served as the Government Relations Director for the chapter, and has a background in early childhood, child welfare and education. 

Will received a master’s in social work at the University of Texas, Austin in 2010 and a bachelor’s degree in English from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia in 1997. Will lived in Hong Kong and Singapore at an early age, and residing abroad helped him develop a love of travel and an appreciation for cultural diversity. He has a passion for promoting the profession of school work and believes strongly in supporting social justice through public awareness. He is married to a social worker who works as a therapist, and they have two young daughters and a newborn son.

Will was selected as the 2018 NASW Gilman Wells Award Recipient for his successful track record representing Texas social workers and their clients at the Texas State Capital.
