Career Center

Please  visit  the  6th Annual  NASW/Texas  Career  Center.  Services include: resume reviews, job search guidance, job postings, and more. The Career Center is hosting two workshops this year: “Professionalism in the Workplace”, presented by Ann Liberman, MSW on Thursday, October 5, and “Follow Your Bliss: Using a Holistic Approach to Career Management” presented by Jennifer Luna Jackson, MSSW on Friday, October 6. The Career Center is brought to you by University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, The Garland School of Social Work at Baylor University, and The University of Texas at Austin, School of Social Work. The NASW/Texas Career Center will be open Thursday, October 5, 8:00am-5:00pm and Friday, October 6, 8:00am-4:00pm.


NASW/Texas Exhibit Hall

Our Exhibit Hall will provide you with the opportunity to meet with more than 80 vendors and organizations that provide services and products to social workers. Whether you work for an agency or have your own practice, you will benefit from knowing the resources and opportunities available in our state. Be sure to visit the Exhibit Hall during session breaks!


Don't forget to stop by the NASW/Texas General Store in the Exhibit Hall. We will stock a myriad of social work apparel and gift items so it will be a great place to stock up for holiday gifts!

How would you like to win some extra spending money? NASW/Texas will be giving away $50 cash to three lucky NASW Members during the conference breaks and meals. You'll find a blue ticket in your registration packet. To participate in the drawing, complete the information on the back and drop it off in the designated box at the Membership booth in the Exhibit Hall. If you are not yet a member, sign up today so you too can participate in the multiple Must be present to win.




Complimentary welcome Brunch

Enjoy brunch Thursday, October 5, at 10:45am in the Exhibit Hall. This is the kickoff event for conference and a great opportunity to meet our exhibitors, visit with friends, old and new, and maybe even win a little Member Giveaway cash while you're there. Remember, the Exhibit Hall opens at 7:30am on Thursday, so please stop by after registration, if you can. Brunch menu.


student poster presentation

The 2017 NASW/Texas Student Poster Presentation will take place during the Complimentary Brunch on Thursday, October 5, 10:45am-12:15pm, in the foyer outside of the upstairs Grand Ballroom. We welcome you to visit the selected student authors, ask questions, and view their poster presentations during this time. Posters will remain displayed through Friday, October 6, 4:00pm. The presentations will be reviewed by a sub-committee and selected "Outstanding Posters" will be recognized during the Closing Plenary.


Gulf Coast Branch Reception

Relax and unwind at the studio of artist, Susan Tyler, in Historic Galveston. Sponsored by the NASW Gulf Coast Branch with wine provided by Kay G. Schiller and Sandra A. Lopez. Don’t miss your chance to win an original painting which will be given away as a door prize! (Personal transportation required. Must be 21 to consume alcohol. Carpooling and use of traditional and on-demand taxi services, such as Uber and Lyft, are encouraged if you will be enjoying the complimentary wine service.) film screening, almost sunrise

Join us for a screening of the 2017 NASW Media Award Recipient for Best Documentary, Almost Sunrise, and earn 1.5 CEUs. Almost Sunrise is a story of resilience and recovery. A feature-length film that follows two Iraq veterans as they struggle with depression and PTSD upon returning home from military service. Panel discussion to follow. Fresh popcorn to be served. On Friday, October 6, at 12:30pm, we will have a lunch event designed to give attendees the chance to network. You will have the opportunity to meet with exhibitors and other professionals in your field. Lunch menu.


Exhibit Hall Scavenger Hunt

Join the fun! Search for clues among the vendors in the Exhibit Hall and register for the grand prize for the most items retrieved. This is a social event and an opportunity to meet our NASW Conference Vendors. The Scavenger Hunt will take place on Friday during the Networking Lunch. 











student leadership institute

Learn how to find leadership opportunities, present yourself professionally, work effectively on a committee, and much more! This will be the first of four sessions (others will be webinars) to provide students with knowledge and skills about key elements of leadership. Students will develop an action plan to implement what they learn and will receive a leadership certificate upon completion of all four modules. The Student Leadership Institute is a complimentary benefit of an NASW Student Membership. Session 1 is free to Student Members and Non-Members alike. A nominal fee will be accessed to Student Non-Members for subsequent sessions. (NASW student membership dues start at just $57. Learn more here.)



Member Appreciation DRAWING

Enter our Member Appreciation Drawing for a chance to have your NASW membership dues paid for one year. The Conference Planning Committee will host this drawing, which is open only to current NASW members. Members, find the blue ticket in your registration packet then turn it in at the doors at the Closing Plenary on Saturday morning, October 7. You must be present at the Closing Plenary to win this prize.
