Closing Plenary

Timothy M. Brown, LCSW, ACSW
Associate Chief Social Work Mental Health VA North Texas Health Care System
Chair/Presiding Officer Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners
President Association of Social Work Boards

“Sharing Our Future Together: Collaboration, Leadership and Paladin”

Tim will share highpoints of North American Social Work Organizations 2018 activities. He will talk about the collaborative undertakings of the three pillars of North American Social Work: National Association of Social Workers, Council on Social Work Education and Association of Social Work Boards. Those attending will expand their knowledge of how these three pillars of the social work profession collaborate to enhance our discipline.

During his talk, Tim will discuss social work leadership. He will examine the importance for each of us, as social workers, to learn the comfort of moving into leadership roles. By doing so, we expand our professional growth and the expansion of social work influence in the larger community.

Tim will end this presentation discussing the key role social workers have a paladin.  In this context he is not referring to the twelve peers of Charlemagne’s court, but as a leading champion of the social work discipline and mentor to novice social workers.

The Closing Plenary will also include another fun-filled Texas Political Action for Candidate Election (TPACE) fundraising contest and the 2018 Student Poster Presentation awards ceremony. Our thanks to this year's Student Poster Presentation Sponsor, Texas A&M University-Central Texas Social Work Department.

The Closing Plenary will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018, 8:00-9:30am in Room E2-E3 at the Arlington Convention Center. (1.5 CEUs)
