May is National Mental Health Month

As May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, please join NASW/Texas in our continued fight against stigma and our continued efforts in advocating for all people with mental health conditions. Mental health issues will affect 1 in 5 Americans over the course of their lifetimes, yet millions of our family members, friends, coworkers, and neighbors still live with the stigma that surrounds mental health issues.
Social Workers provide the majority of mental health services in the country and have the training and education needed to support anyone facing a mental health concern. Recovery is possible, and together, we can all advocate for positive change.

Survey: Non-Medical Switching

Greg Hansch, Public Policy Director of NAMI Texas (National Alliance on Mental Illness) has asked for some help collecting information about the issue of patients being switched off of their medications by their insurers for non-medical reasons. His organization has heard from their membership about this being an issue that can cause negative consequences for patients, and they are in the process of collecting stories about it.

Their goal is to bring together a coalition of patient advocacy and provider groups to speak with one voice on this issue in the 2017 Texas legislative session. His hope is that you will join them in bringing these stories to light and advocating for patient protections against non-medical medication switches.

NAMI Texas developed a survey containing questions on this issue.  Having stories will help make the case to decision-makers that patient protections and provider enhancements are needed in this area. The survey can be completed anonymously. Take survey now.
