Social Justice Series: Part 1

Attorney General Ken Paxton is attacking a highly vulnerable population in Texas. He has instructed our schools both public and higher educational systems to not follow the directives from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Education (DOE). He is touting that a transgender woman is not a woman and that at transgender man is not a man. His argument is based solely on those concepts. As a result, he has been creating a sense of fear amongst the population in Texas. The media has been sensationalizing this fear which, as a result, amplifies the dangers to a highly vulnerable population, transgender people.

Existing research shows that approximately 94% of the social workers in Texas are not prepared to work with or approach the issues related to transgenderism. As a result of this situation and the political implications, a series of articles will be published in order to help social workers cope and advocate for the transgender population against great odds in the political system. This is the first article in a series. Read more.
