NASW/TX Continues to monitor and actively support its coalition partners regarding the immigration and separation crisis at the border.  We continue to be concerned that there are children still being detained and separated from their families.  We call on the federal government to utilize every resource they have to reunite these families.  It is as the Federal Judge who issued the court order to reunite families, the responsibility of the Department of Justice, HHS, and the Attorney General to ensure that these children are reunited.  It is not the responsibility of private organizations such as the ACLU to do this work.

We are concerned that the longer the children are detained the higher the liklihood that they will be put into foster care and become part of the over burdened child protective services agency in Texas if their families cannot be located.

This alone creates another crisis and is extremely damaging for these children who have already suffered so much. As social workers, if you wish to get involved please call and write your senators and representatives in congress to let them know that this situation must end.  Also please contact RAICES Texas to see if they need more Social Workers to provide assessments. Lastly, vote in the upcoming midterms to have in office those whose values clearly match the professions values.
