Advocacy Alert

Unless you’ve opted out sometime in the past, your home address was published on the website of the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (TSBSWE).  The Board has spreadsheets listing all license holders in Texas, and they listed the person’s home address.

NASW/TX has been working hard to rectify this, and wants to ensure that your safety and private information isn’t available for anyone to see.  We’ve advocated with the board, supported legislation that would remove the addresses, and raised this issue at numerous regulatory hearings. Those advocacy efforts have paid off, and in the future, TSBSWE will only post a licensee’s name, license number and county of residence.  This change has been a long time coming, and we couldn’t have done it without your support.

NASW/TX is committed to ensuring that all social workers feel comfortable to practice and work without fear for their or their family’s well-being.  Advocacy efforts like these sometimes take a while, but through diligence and persistence, changes that support social work are attainable.  We’ll continue to focus our efforts on the board through the Sunset process next legislative session, and we’ll keep you updated on the issues that matter to you most.

Thank-you for your membership, and your participation in the largest membership association for social workers in the country raises the bar for everyone in our profession in Texas.
