Kimberly M. Lauriston

Kimberly M. Lauriston is a first-generation American woman of Haitian descent. She has significant history with Miami's nonprofit sector and has worked to improve the health, educational, and economic outcomes of students in low-income communities. The recognition of grave racial disparities and Kimberly’s inability to advocate for her community motivated her to learn how  by specializing in macro social work.

She recently completed her graduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin where she researched the inconsistencies of federal drug enforcement policies and their disparate impact on low-income communities of color. As part of her 8-month field internship at the NASW/TX, Kimberly worked diligently to establish the REAL committee. Her life's mission is to educate the community, eradicate predatory policies, and advocate for the equity of opportunity and treatment for her countrymen domestically and abroad.
