Staying Grounded: The Role of Self-Determination in Ethical Social Work Practice
Presented by NASW-TX Executive Director, Will Francis, LMSW, Staying Grounded: The Role of Self-Determination in Ethical Social Work Practice, will explore how important autonomy is for both clients and professionals. This presentation covers laws, rules, court cases, the Code of Ethics, practical case studies and more, in order to give social workers the ability to make ethically informed decisions on practice.
AGENDA Section 1: Foundations of Social Work Practice
Attendees will gain a refresher course on both the core tenets of social work and the state and federal regulations that govern the profession. Participants will join the discussion on areas such as scope of practice, ethical conduct, record retention requirements, and the crucial intersection between legal frameworks and best practices.
Section 2: Social Work in a Changing World
The second section will highlight issues around social justice and human rights, the evolving role of technology in social work, how environmental issues are impacting the profession, and the larger issues that impact the profession. We’ll explore how secondary trauma impacts professionals, in addition to examining how a client centered approach doesn’t mean losing one’s identity.
