About the Presenter

Beatriz Alaniz, LCSW-S has been a practicing social worker for over 18 years and teaching in higher education as an adjunct and full-time professor for a total of 8 years. She attained her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in 2006 and began working as a social worker conducting home visits, medication management, case management and providing mental health services in the RGV community with clients recently discharged from the psychiatric hospital. She then pursued her MSW degree at NYU and graduated in 2008 entering the field soon after graduation, as a forensic social worker. As a forensic social worker, she collaborated with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and CPS, interviewed and/or provided services for children, young adults, and their families affected by sexual, physical abuse as well as labor and sex human trafficking. In 2010 she studied and passed her LMSW licensure exam and eventually moved from New York back home to Texas to eventually pursue her clinical licensure requirements.

In order to meet criteria for her clinical licensure requirements, she eventually transitioned from being a forensic social worker to a psychiatric social worker for a psychiatric hospital. In 2015, she took and passed her clinical licensure exam and since then, her commitment to lifelong learning immersed her into specializing in trauma, couples therapy, and social work education. Beatriz is EMDR trained and completed Levels 1-3 from the Gottman Institute and will be applying this year to begin her certification journey. In 2021, she became a Board-Approved Supervisor and launched her private practice part-time. In 2022, she enrolled in the Doctorate in Social Work program at Barry University specializing in Trauma-Informed Practice and is set to graduate in December 2025.

Beatriz works full-time as a Professor of Practice for the University of Texas at San Antonio where she has and continues to play a key role in the development of the new BSW program. Since 2021, Beatriz has been providing a licensure prep workshop to students and professionals from the community and has assisted students and fellow social workers to attain their licensure as LMSW’s and LCSW’s. Currently, to date, all of her LMSW supervisees have also passed their clinical exam on their first attempt upon completion of their LCSW requirements. She is passionate about finding the best tools to help students, supervisees, and colleagues boost their confidence to conquer the ASWB exams and overturn current negative passing rates!
