NASW continues to Urge President Trump to Fully Fund SNAP

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps low-income families buy food and serves over 41 million participants monthly, ran out of funds on November 1. Although the SNAP Contingency Fund could have covered benefits through November, the Trump Administration initially did not release the funds, prompting lawsuits from states and organizations. Judges in Rhode Island and Massachusetts ordered the release of contingency funds, but the Administration indicated it would only release half until the government shutdown ended.
NASW has actively advocated for SNAP funding, including sending a letter signed by over 6,600 social workers urging coverage of benefits, and continues to work with coalition partners to ensure food assistance reaches those in need. Read the full article here.
