Back to SWAD website
There are many ways to incorporate SWAD into both clinical and macro level course work. Here are some ideas to get you started!
- First and foremost, we encourage you to offer extra credit if students attend NASW-TX SWAD 2025, including the “Preparing for SWAD” event.
- Resources: Add the NASW-TX Advocacy Guide as a resource for the class.
- Legislative Office Visit: Create a class assignment around the student (or group of students) attending a legislative office visit. Legislative office visits are part of the SWAD agenda. Legislative Visit Role Play Classroom Activity
- Reflection Paper: Assign a short reflection paper on SWAD or a topic covered during SWAD by the speakers.
- Written Closing Rally Speech: Students have the opportunity to share a written “speech” on an advocacy topic of their choice during the SWAD Rally.
- Advocacy email: Have students draft their own advocacy email on a topic of their choice for their legislators. Tips in the Advocacy Guide.
- Advocacy Social Media Post: Have students draft their own social media post or video on an advocacy topic of their choosing. Tips in the Advocacy Guide.
All of these ideas can be standalone assignments or extra credit.
